About

Meet the Geek.  I’m Jim Dickeson.  My world is trade compliance for exporters, importers, freight forwarders, and customs brokerage.

My father was an engineer, and a do-it-yourselfer. He had a grasp of how things worked, and could always figure out how to fix them when they didn’t. Growing up helping him with projects – working on the car, putting in a patio – instilled in me the desire to roll up my sleeves, and figure things out. These traits help me quickly grasp the technical parameters of products and technologies for export and import classification, and license determination; and to decipher the regulatory requirements, and apply them to situations at hand.

I’ve worked on both sides of the fence, managing trade compliance for high tech manufacturing, and for the freight forwarding and customs brokerage industry.  I’ve also consulted, both with a major firm, and on my own.  Finally, I am a licensed U.S. customs broker.
